Women In Art
Championing women in the arts
Led by Sarah Norris, Women in Art was created to champion women creating art. The organisation arranges shows and events, and publishes news, features and interviews with artists and other people working in the art world.
“Emerging from the debate on gender parity, WIA focuses on what it’s like to be a female professional in the art world. Whether that’s as an artist, graphic designer, illustrator, gallery owner, administrative staff, museum director or art critic, we want to examine the issues that affect women in art.
Studies have shown that despite some recent changes (appointments of women in leading positions and major female retrospectives at major institutions) and a push for greater transparency, there is still a significant gender divide within the industry.
By profiling women working in the art industry, running a programme of talks, events and exhibitions, and taking a look at the story behind the statistics, we will further the debate and support and promote individuals and initiatives.”
