DWP runners training course
For the last couple of years we’ve been consulting with the UK’s Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) to develop a training scheme to help unemployed people get into the film and TV industry. We settled on a course to train candidates in the skills needed to work at an entry level in a film or TV company. The pilot, designed and implemented by Resource Productions, is nearly complete and, if it’s successful, it will be rolled out nationwide. The tutors are experienced film makers and hand picked the 10 candidates in a one day practical course which was followed by a six day training course. The candidates are mostly from backgrounds that are under represented. They’re bright, hard working and well behaved!
The training itself has now finished. To complete the course, the candidates must attend a job interview - either one that’s on spec, for potential future work, or one that’s to fill a current vacancy.
We have until the end of July 2023 to find interviews for each of the 10 candidates. It’s going very well and there’s a remarkable amount of enthusiasm from everyone involved including the DWP, the course tutors, the candidates and the people within the industry with whom we’re setting up interviews.
